Geosciences

Objective and Focus Areas

Geosciences division plays a crucial role in advancing scientific knowledge and supporting developmental projects for various state and central government departments. The division is involved in a range of scientific studies and projects, including mapping and analysis of lithology, geomorphology, hydro-geomorphology, geological structures, and mineral prospecting. These studies provide critical insights into the physical characteristics and processes of the Earth's surface and subsurface. The division also focuses on the development of Mining Information Systems (MIS), which are essential for managing and optimizing mining activities while ensuring environmental and regulatory compliance. Additionally, the division addresses natural disaster and geo-hazard mitigation by preparing strategies and measures to manage and reduce the impact of natural disasters and geo-environmental issues. Remote sensing technology is a key tool used by TGRAC to study these aspects, providing spatial and temporal data that enhances the understanding of geological and environmental phenomena. The division also offers tailored solutions to user departments on demand, ensuring that their specific geoscientific needs and challenges are effectively addressed. The division is presently carrying out following projects.
